I was recently invited to an advanced screening of The Odd Life of Timothy Green. I knew Computer Dude wouldn’t really be into it, so I brought along Soccer Star and Bookworm. I hoped that they would like it, and I was pretty sure that I would, but the reactions that we each had were NOT what I was expecting.
Synopsis: Academy Award®–nominated director/writer Peter Hedges (“Dan in Real Life,” What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?”) brings enchantment to the screen with “The Odd Life of Timothy Green,” an inspiring, magical story about a happily married couple, Cindy and Jim Green (Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton), who can’t wait to start a family but can only dream about what their child would be like. When young Timothy (CJ Adams) shows up on their doorstep one stormy night, Cindy and Jim—and their small town of Stanleyville—learn that sometimes the unexpected can bring some of life’s greatest gifts.
This was a very touching movie, more so than I really thought it would be. Without giving too much away, I just want to say that I cried. More than once. I think maybe it’s because I’m a mom, and I love those kind of emotional sad-but-happy-at-the-same-time movies. But maybe not. At the end of the movie, I looked over to the girls, and BOTH of them were wiping their eyes. Now, let me remind you that these are Teen “No Feelings Must Be Shown In Public At Any Time” Girls. Ya, they were both tearing up, and even more miraculous, they both admitted to it! CJ Adams is a wonderful young actor, and played his part perfectly. I will definitely be owning this movie when it’s available.
The Odd Life of Timothy Green opens TODAY, make sure that it’s on your list of must-see movies this summer. (Psst, make sure to bring a tissue or 3!) In the meantime, check out more info and connect on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest!
Disclaimer: I was given free tickets to an advanced screening in exchange for my honest thoughts and opinions of the movie. No other compensation was received.
