Any Shameless fans out there? I love that show, and one of the main reasons is because I love Emmy Rossum and her character. She was in Phantom of the Opera in 2004, but since I never saw it until recently, I never knew she could sing, and so well! Well, she’s putting out an album, what she calls her “passion project”. A journey through the classic American Songbook, this album covers some great songs from amazing artists of the last century, and I couldn’t wait to hear her renditions!
There are 12 songs (with one bonus track), and each song represents a month of the year. The tracks are:
- “Sentimental Journey” (Les Brown, Ben Homer, Arthur Green)
- “The Object Of My Affection” (Pinky Tomlin)
- “I’m Looking Over A Four Leaf Clover “(Mort Dixon, Harry M. Woods)
- “These Foolish Things (Remind Me Of You)” (Eric Maschwitz, Jack Strachey)
- “(I’ll Be With You) In Apple Blossom Time” (Albert Von Tilzer, Neville Fleeson)
- “Summer Wind” (Heinz Meier, Johnny Mercer)
- “Many Tears Ago” (Winfield Scott)
- “All I Do Is Dream Of You” (Nacio Herb Brown, Arthur Freed)
- “Nobody Knows You When You’re Down And Out” (Jimmy Cox)
- “Autumn Leaves” (Joseph Kosma, Jacques Prévert)
- “Things” (Bobby Darin)
- “Pretty Paper” (Willie Nelson)
- Bonus Track “Keep Young and Beautiful” (Harry Warren, Al Dubin)
My favorite is a three-way tie between (I’ll Be With You) In Apple Blossom Time, Nobody Knows You When You’re Down And Out, and Autumn Leaves. All of the songs are beautiful though, and she does a really good job of bringing out the sound of each era that the songs come from. I love older songs, especially from the ’20s through the ’50s, so all of these songs are great in my opinion.
Sentimental Journey is on preorder now, and will be released on the 29th! Head over to Amazon or iTunes to get your copy (those are not affiliate links)
Make sure to also follow Emmy on Twitter and catch her interviews coming up in the next few weeks: She’;; be a guest on Conan on January 28th, Chelsea Lately on January 29th, and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on February 6th. And while you’re waiting, watch a clip of These Foolish Things (Remind Me Of You):

What a beautiful voice…. I had honestly never heard of her before so thanks for sharing this!
Huh, I’ve never heard of her, but I have not watched Shameless either. She sounds great though, thanks for the info.
How cool ~ I too LOVE Shameless and had no idea she could sing. Maybe they could find a way to work that into the show
