KaBOOM! Playground Love Contest

One of the great things about living in Salem is the amount of parks we have. 47 parks, plus school playgrounds that aren’t designated as parks, plus 20 undeveloped park properties. Needless to say, we have a lot of choices when it comes to where we are going to play that day, and we are very lucky to have such a wide choice.

So many children today don’t have a safe place to play. Parks are few and far between, and some of them are unsafe. Old playground equipment can be dangerous! I was happy to learn about KaBOOM!, which is a non-profit organization who’s goal is a park within walking distance of every child. Not only does regular play keep your child active and healthy, it also gives them a chance to socialize outside of school, improves cognitive and physical development, and is just plain fun! Every child should have a fun and safe place to play, and KaBOOM! agrees.

This month KaBOOM! is asking you to submit a picture of your favorite playgound for a chance to win some great outdoor toys! Just post a picture of your favorite playground on their Facebook page by February 19th! Judges will choose the winners based on the photo and caption. There will be eight winners total, so go and enter today! (Official and complete rules can be found by clicking the link)

  1. That is really cool. Sadly we moved away from my favorite playground this summer and I am in need of finding a new great playground. Thanks for sharing!

  2. that sounds really cool. Now to get to the playground/park before the 19th so I can get a photo… Thanks for sharing.

What a great initiative! I know all of my grandkids have a park within walking distance that they can go play on. What’s scary is that they can’t go to these parks by themselves – the way I used to walk to the school (2 blocks from where I lived) and play. The world has really become a dark and scary place to be. I’m so happy for Ka-Boom though, that they are giving mom’s a place to take their kids!
